"Laugh's Comedy Spot in Kirkland is the best
thing that's happened to the East Side"

As E.E. Cummings said, "The most wasted of all days is one without laughter."

Dave and Angela Dennison, owners of Laughs Comedy Spot, are doing their part to make sure that no days go to waste.

They opened Kirkland's only comedy club in the summer of 2007 after doing extensive site selection research. The club got its start in the former Bellevue Double Tree hotel, where it enjoyed over ten years of success. The sale of the property prompted the Dennisons to find a new location, and preferably one where they could own the club outright and have full operational control.

Their search took them all over the Eastside. They peered into lots of windows, made the rounds at several City Halls, and spoke to neighboring businesses about sites they were interested in. When Angela stepped into the former Godfather's Pizza in Totem Square (across the street from the Totem Lake Infiniti dealership), she knew that it met all of the site selection criteria. It was close to I-405, had ample free customer parking, a kitchen and bathrooms. What's more, it meant that Angela could be a business owner in her hometown of Kirkland. She grew up in the West of Market neighborhood and graduated from Inglemoor High School. Her grandparents lived in Rose Hill, and she can remember when her new neighbor, Ford of Kirkland, was the Prime Rib Palace!

Dave is both a stand-up comic himself and an experienced restaurant manager. He puts that winning combination to use every day. After attending UCLA and California Polytechnic, Dave earned his degree in Restaurant and Travel Management. He then managed a series of restaurants and comedy clubs in California and Utah. He was invited to compete in Seattle's International Comedy Competition in 1997. He met Angela at an open mic night at Kirkland's Pegasus Pizza in 2002, and it was love at first laugh.

After undergoing an architect designed extreme makeover, Laughs Comedy Spot has an upscale, intimate feel. It can hold up to 200 customers, and every seat has an unobstructed view of the stage. A state of the art sound system allows all of the jokes to be heard.

Dave is in charge of booking the acts, and uses his extensive contacts with nationally known comedians, agents and managers to bring the great headliners to the stage. He and Angela regularly attend the Just for Laughs comedy festival in Montreal, Quebec to scout out rising stars and boost their careers by inviting them to perform at Laughs.

Angela was named as one of the "Eastside Women Entrepreneur's Leading Ladies" by 425 Magazine. A select group of the top business women on the eastside. Angela handles the day to day operations as a business powerhouse while she is not working her other full time job as an oral surgeon's assistant. Stop and say Hi to Angela, you might get comp'ed.

The club is open Tuesday Saturday, with one or two shows per night.

Tuesday is open mic night, where up and coming comics are invited to try out their material. Audience members pay nothing to see the acts, and can order from the Starving Artist menu which features items like $2 hot dogs and $2 draft beers.

Headliners are featured on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Show prices are normally $15 or $20 with a minimum two item purchase requirement from the food and beverage menu.

The regular menu features appetizers, salads, pasta and sandwiches that are all priced at $10 or less. Dave's signature sauces put a kick into many items. The bar is fully stocked, and features specialty cocktails such as a skinny root beer float (vanilla vodka and diet root beer) and the standing ovation (energy drink and peach vodka) with prices from $7 to $9. Wine is offered by the glass ($6 to $8) and the bottle ($20 to $30), and beer is offered by the bottle and on tap from $4 and up.

The target customers for the club are upscale professionals looking for a fun venue to have a date, celebrate a birthday or other special occasion. Roughly 1/3 of the club's patrons call Kirkland home, 1/3 are Seattleites, and 1/3 live in the suburbs north and west of Kirkland.

Newly remodeled, 200 seat theater, state of the art sound system. Conveniently located off I-405 exit 20. With plenty of well lit FREE PARKING and not one bad seat in the house. That's right No Obstructed View of the stage! Come in to Laughs, where the jokes are funny and the atmosphere is friendly.
